How to block adult sites on Mac
Set up Mac
- 1Click Download profile on this page, on the Mac.
- 2Open System Settings → General → Device Management (on macOS Ventura: Privacy & Security → Profiles).
- 3Double-click ZenTab Protection and click Install.
- 4Install the ZenTab extension in Chrome, then come back and click Test this device.
Strongest: add Apple's built-in filter too
- 1System Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy, and switch it on.
- 2Content Restrictions → Access to Web Content → Limit Adult Websites.
Browsers can bypass the system filter with their own secure DNS. In Chrome, Settings → Privacy and security → Security → Use secure DNS should be off or set to the address above. In Firefox, set DNS over HTTPS to Off or to the same address.
Use a standard account and a Screen Time passcode that someone you trust holds. Removing the profile or the filter then needs them.
Check that it worked
Open zentab.live/protect on this device and tap Test this device. It checks that known adult sites are unreachable without opening or showing anything. Sign in with your Gmail first and the result appears on your dashboard, next to your other devices.
Frequently asked questions
Does the profile work on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs?
Yes. DNS profiles are a standard macOS feature on every Mac from Big Sur onward.
Will it affect work VPNs?
A full-tunnel VPN may send DNS through the VPN instead, which skips the filter while it's connected. Everyday browsing outside the VPN stays filtered.
Protect Chrome on your computer too
ZenTab blocks adult sites in Chrome from the moment you install it. Pro adds urge challenges, SafeSearch everywhere and a 30-minute lock, so a weak moment passes before you can switch it off.
