How to block adult sites on a Chromebook

On a Chromebook the browser is the computer, so the ZenTab extension does most of the work. Adding Chrome's own secure DNS setting covers Android apps and anything the extension can't reach.

Make it hard to undo

School and work Chromebooks may be managed by an admin who controls these settings. On your own, keep ZenTab's Strict Mode on so its blocks can't be loosened.

Check that it worked

Open zentab.live/protect on this device and tap Test this device. It checks that known adult sites are unreachable without opening or showing anything. Sign in with your Gmail first and the result appears on your dashboard, next to your other devices.

Frequently asked questions

My Chromebook is from school. Can I change these settings?

Managed Chromebooks often lock DNS and extensions. If the settings are greyed out, the school already controls filtering, and only its admin can change it.

Does this cover Android apps on the Chromebook?

Yes. The secure DNS setting applies to the whole Chromebook, including Android apps from the Play Store.

Protect Chrome on your computer too

ZenTab blocks adult sites in Chrome from the moment you install it. Pro adds urge challenges, SafeSearch everywhere and a 30-minute lock, so a weak moment passes before you can switch it off.
