How to block Reddit on Chrome

Reddit is where you go to find one answer and end up reading forty threads. The home page and r/popular are endless, but the subreddit you searched for is often useful.

Why Reddit is hard to put down

  • The home feed and r/popular never run out.
  • Comment threads are long, interesting and easy to lose an hour in.
  • It feels like research, which makes it hard to notice you've stopped working.

Block Reddit in four steps

  1. 1Add ZenTab to Chrome. It's free, and your first 7 days include every Pro feature.
  2. 2Open the ZenTab dashboard and go to Site Blocker.
  3. 3Reddit is already in the Social media pack: make sure reddit.com is switched on. If it isn't listed, type reddit.com and click Add site.
  4. 4Open reddit.com. Instead of the site you'll see ZenTab's calm block page, with your streak and a button to start a focus session.

A site covers its subdomains too, so reddit.com also blocks every *.reddit.com address. The free plan blocks 10 sites at a time; if you're at the limit, switch off one you need less, or go Pro for unlimited sites.

Smarter ways to limit Reddit

Reddit is often the best place to find real answers, especially from Google searches. Blocking everything isn't the only option:

Hide the home and Popular feeds

Pro

Feed Eraser removes the home, Popular and All feeds. A thread you open from Google, or a subreddit you visit on purpose, still loads.

Block just r/all and r/popular

Pro

Page-level rules like reddit.com/r/all and reddit.com/r/popular close the endless feeds and leave everything else open.

Cap it at 15 minutes a day

Pro

A daily time limit gives you room for answers without the evening disappearing.

Hide the Reddit feed instead

Feed Eraser keeps Reddit working but removes the parts built to keep you scrolling.

When you're tempted to unblock it

Most blockers fail in the same moment: you're tired, the urge hits, and switching the block off takes two clicks. ZenTab adds friction exactly there.

  • I really need this site: the block page can open Reddit for a few minutes after a short wait, so a genuine need doesn't turn into an hour.
  • Strict Mode (Pro): no quick unlocks, you can add sites but not remove or pause them, and turning it off takes a 15-minute cool-down.
  • Commitment lock (Pro): keep Strict Mode on until a date you choose, with no way out early.

Frequently asked questions

Can I block Reddit but still see threads from Google search?

Yes. Hide the home and Popular feeds with Feed Eraser instead of blocking reddit.com. Threads you open from search load normally.

Does ZenTab work on old.reddit.com?

Site blocking works on every Reddit address, including old.reddit.com. Feed Eraser is tuned for the current reddit.com design.

Block Reddit in a minute

ZenTab is free: block up to 10 sites, hide YouTube Shorts and grow a focus streak. Pro adds unlimited sites, page rules, schedules and daily limits for $10 once.
