How to block Threads on Chrome
Why Threads is hard to put down
- The For You feed is algorithmic and never ends.
- Short posts make it feel like a quick check every time.
- Replies and quote posts keep pulling you into new conversations.
Block Threads in four steps
- 1Add ZenTab to Chrome. It's free, and your first 7 days include every Pro feature.
- 2Open the ZenTab dashboard and go to Site Blocker.
- 3Threads is already in the Social media pack: make sure threads.net is switched on. If it isn't listed, type threads.net and click Add site.
- 4Open threads.net. Instead of the site you'll see ZenTab's calm block page, with your streak and a button to start a focus session.
A site covers its subdomains too, so threads.net also blocks every *.threads.net address. The free plan blocks 10 sites at a time; if you're at the limit, switch off one you need less, or go Pro for unlimited sites.
Smarter ways to limit Threads
Some people use Threads to post or to follow a few specific accounts. Blocking everything isn't the only option:
Block it with the social pack
FreeThreads is part of ZenTab's Social media pack, along with Instagram, X and Facebook.
Block it on weekdays
ProA schedule keeps Threads closed during the work week and open on weekends.
Set a daily limit
Pro10 minutes a day is enough to post and check replies.
When you're tempted to unblock it
Most blockers fail in the same moment: you're tired, the urge hits, and switching the block off takes two clicks. ZenTab adds friction exactly there.
- I really need this site: the block page can open Threads for a few minutes after a short wait, so a genuine need doesn't turn into an hour.
- Strict Mode (Pro): no quick unlocks, you can add sites but not remove or pause them, and turning it off takes a 15-minute cool-down.
- Commitment lock (Pro): keep Strict Mode on until a date you choose, with no way out early.
Frequently asked questions
Does blocking Threads block Instagram too?
No. They're separate entries in your blocklist, so you can block one and keep the other.
Can I block threads.com as well as threads.net?
Yes. Add any address Threads uses to your blocklist; ZenTab blocks every page on that domain.
