How to block Pinterest on Chrome

Pinterest is inspiration with no bottom. A search for one idea turns into an endless masonry grid of slightly different ideas.

Why Pinterest is hard to put down

  • The grid loads forever as you scroll.
  • Related pins make every click lead somewhere new.
  • Saving ideas feels productive, even when nothing gets made.

Block Pinterest in four steps

  1. 1Add ZenTab to Chrome. It's free, and your first 7 days include every Pro feature.
  2. 2Open the ZenTab dashboard and go to Site Blocker.
  3. 3Pinterest is already in the Social media pack: make sure pinterest.com is switched on. If it isn't listed, type pinterest.com and click Add site.
  4. 4Open pinterest.com. Instead of the site you'll see ZenTab's calm block page, with your streak and a button to start a focus session.

A site covers its subdomains too, so pinterest.com also blocks every *.pinterest.com address. The free plan blocks 10 sites at a time; if you're at the limit, switch off one you need less, or go Pro for unlimited sites.

Smarter ways to limit Pinterest

Designers and makers often use Pinterest for real reference work. Blocking everything isn't the only option:

Block it outright

Free

Pinterest is in ZenTab's Social media pack, ready to switch on.

Give it a set time

Pro

Schedule Pinterest for an afternoon research slot and block it the rest of the day.

Limit it to 20 minutes

Pro

A daily limit keeps reference-gathering from becoming an evening.

When you're tempted to unblock it

Most blockers fail in the same moment: you're tired, the urge hits, and switching the block off takes two clicks. ZenTab adds friction exactly there.

  • I really need this site: the block page can open Pinterest for a few minutes after a short wait, so a genuine need doesn't turn into an hour.
  • Strict Mode (Pro): no quick unlocks, you can add sites but not remove or pause them, and turning it off takes a 15-minute cool-down.
  • Commitment lock (Pro): keep Strict Mode on until a date you choose, with no way out early.

Frequently asked questions

I use Pinterest for design reference. Should I block it?

Block it most of the day and allow it in a scheduled research window. That keeps it useful without letting it take over.

Does blocking pinterest.com also block regional sites like pinterest.co.uk?

Add each regional address you use to your blocklist. With Pro you can add as many as you need.
