The blocker that follows you to your phone.
Your phone can't run Chrome extensions. Phone Shield syncs the same blocklist to your phone's DNS — setup takes 5 minutes.
- Same list as your desktop
- Android and iPhone
- About 5 minutes
Export your blocklist from ZenTab
On your computer, open the ZenTab dashboard → Settings → Phone Shield and click Export blocklist. You get zentab-blocklist.txt: plain text, one domain per line. DNS blocks whole domains, so page rules like youtube.com/shorts stay desktop-only.
Put it on your phone
NextDNS
Free tier · recommended- 1Create a free account at nextdns.io. You get a configuration ID like abc123.
- 2Open the Denylist tab and add the domains from your exported list.
- 3On your phone: Settings → Network & internet → Private DNS → Private DNS provider hostname.
- 4Enter abc123.dns.nextdns.io (with your ID) and save. Open a blocked site to check.
RethinkDNS
Free · open source- 1Install RethinkDNS from Google Play or F-Droid and start it. It runs as a local VPN on the phone.
- 2Open its domain rules (Configure → Custom rules in recent versions).
- 3Add each domain from your exported list with the rule set to Block.
- 4In Android Settings → VPN, turn on Always-on VPN for Rethink so it survives restarts.
Also want adult sites blocked on your phone?
The free adult filter works the same way, below every browser and app. Protect every device.
Where do I get my blocklist?
In the ZenTab extension, open Settings → Phone Shield and click Export blocklist. You get a plain text file with one domain per line, ready to paste.
Does ZenTab see my phone's traffic?
No. Your phone talks to the DNS service you pick (NextDNS, RethinkDNS or Apple's own Screen Time). ZenTab never sits in between, and the export happens on your computer.
Can it block just YouTube Shorts on my phone?
No. DNS works with whole domains, so path rules like youtube.com/shorts stay desktop-only. The export lists the whole sites you block.
Does it cost anything?
No. Phone Shield is free in ZenTab, the NextDNS free tier covers 300,000 lookups a month, RethinkDNS is free and open source, and Screen Time is built into iOS.
