How to block Steam Store on Chrome

Steam sales and wishlists turn "just looking" into an hour of trailers, reviews and bundles.

Why Steam Store is hard to put down

  • Sales and daily deals create urgency.
  • Wishlists and discovery queues are endless.
  • Reviews and trailers make browsing feel like research.

Block Steam Store in four steps

  1. 1Add ZenTab to Chrome. It's free, and your first 7 days include every Pro feature.
  2. 2Open the ZenTab dashboard and go to Site Blocker.
  3. 3Steam Store is already in the Gaming pack: make sure store.steampowered.com is switched on. If it isn't listed, type store.steampowered.com and click Add site.
  4. 4Open store.steampowered.com. Instead of the site you'll see ZenTab's calm block page, with your streak and a button to start a focus session.

A site covers its subdomains too, so store.steampowered.com also blocks every *.store.steampowered.com address. The free plan blocks 10 sites at a time; if you're at the limit, switch off one you need less, or go Pro for unlimited sites.

Smarter ways to limit Steam Store

Buy games when you're not supposed to be working. Blocking everything isn't the only option:

Block the store, not your library

Free

ZenTab's rule blocks store.steampowered.com only, so community pages and guides stay open.

Shop at the weekend

Pro

Schedule the Steam store for weekends.

Use the gaming pack

Free

The Gaming pack also covers Roblox, Chess.com, Poki and Miniclip.

When you're tempted to unblock it

Most blockers fail in the same moment: you're tired, the urge hits, and switching the block off takes two clicks. ZenTab adds friction exactly there.

  • I really need this site: the block page can open Steam Store for a few minutes after a short wait, so a genuine need doesn't turn into an hour.
  • Strict Mode (Pro): no quick unlocks, you can add sites but not remove or pause them, and turning it off takes a 15-minute cool-down.
  • Commitment lock (Pro): keep Strict Mode on until a date you choose, with no way out early.

Frequently asked questions

Does this stop the Steam app from opening games?

No. ZenTab blocks the Steam store website in Chrome. The Steam app on your computer isn't affected.

Can I still read Steam guides?

Yes. Only store.steampowered.com is blocked by default; steamcommunity.com stays open unless you add it.
