How to block Amazon on Chrome

Amazon is a distraction disguised as an errand. You go to buy one thing, then deals, recommendations and reviews take over.

Why Amazon is hard to put down

  • Recommendations follow you from page to page.
  • Deals and countdowns create artificial urgency.
  • Researching purchases feels productive, but rarely needs to happen right now.

Block Amazon in four steps

  1. 1Add ZenTab to Chrome. It's free, and your first 7 days include every Pro feature.
  2. 2Open the ZenTab dashboard and go to Site Blocker.
  3. 3Amazon is already in the Shopping pack: make sure amazon.com is switched on. If it isn't listed, type amazon.com and click Add site.
  4. 4Open amazon.com. Instead of the site you'll see ZenTab's calm block page, with your streak and a button to start a focus session.

A site covers its subdomains too, so amazon.com also blocks every *.amazon.com address. The free plan blocks 10 sites at a time; if you're at the limit, switch off one you need less, or go Pro for unlimited sites.

Smarter ways to limit Amazon

Shopping is a real errand. It just doesn't belong in a focus session. Blocking everything isn't the only option:

Block the whole site

Free

amazon.com and amazon.in are in the Shopping pack.

Shop at a set time

Pro

Schedule shopping sites to open in the evening.

Keep Prime Video out of reach

Pro

Add the page rule amazon.com/gp/video to block streaming without blocking shopping.

When you're tempted to unblock it

Most blockers fail in the same moment: you're tired, the urge hits, and switching the block off takes two clicks. ZenTab adds friction exactly there.

  • I really need this site: the block page can open Amazon for a few minutes after a short wait, so a genuine need doesn't turn into an hour.
  • Strict Mode (Pro): no quick unlocks, you can add sites but not remove or pause them, and turning it off takes a 15-minute cool-down.
  • Commitment lock (Pro): keep Strict Mode on until a date you choose, with no way out early.

Frequently asked questions

Can I block Amazon shopping but keep AWS?

Yes, with page-level rules (Pro). Blocking amazon.com also blocks its subdomains, including aws.amazon.com. Instead, block the store's search and product pages with rules like amazon.com/s and amazon.com/dp, and the AWS console keeps working.

Does it block my local Amazon store?

The Shopping pack includes amazon.com and amazon.in. Add your local store, like amazon.co.uk, to block it too.

Block Amazon in a minute

ZenTab is free: block up to 10 sites, hide YouTube Shorts and grow a focus streak. Pro adds unlimited sites, page rules, schedules and daily limits for $10 once.
